In the UPICA division responsible for resin products, we manufacture and sell radical polymerization thermosetting resins, coating resins, and molding materials. Our offerings in radical polymerization resins include unsaturated polyester resins, vinyl ester resins, and urethane acrylate resins, which are widely applied in the field of composite materials. For coating resins, we supply saturated polyester resins and vinyl ester resins for powder coatings, toners, and electronic materials. Additionally, we offer environmentally friendly products made from biomass and recycled materials.

UPICA Unsaturated Polyester Resin

“UPICA,” our brand of unsaturated polyester resin, is highly resistant to water and chemical agents. Combining it with a reinforcing substance like glass fiber allows you to make molded goods with high strength, heat-resistance, dimensional stability and other advantages. Our artificial marble resin and flame-retardant resin have particularly good reputations for performance and workability unmatched by the competition. UPICA has earned its place as one of Japan’s major manufacturers in the field of FRP resins.

NEOPOL Epoxy Acrylate Resins (vinyl Esters)

Our epoxy acrylate resin "NEOPOL" excels in corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and mechanical properties. It is used in various fields such as the chemical industry, paper industry, and food industry for FRP corrosion-resistant equipment and lining materials. Additionally, it has a strong track record as an adhesive and resist material for electronic materials.

UPICA Urethane Acrylate Resins

UPICA developed its urethane acrylate resins with the original polymer design and control technologies used with our unsaturated polyester resins and epoxy acrylate resins. We have been developing unique high quality grades for thermosetting, UV-curing, and non-yellowing types.

BIOMUP Polyester Resin Derived from Biomass-Materials

UPICA developed BIOMUP resin using plant-derived materials that can be renewed within a few years. This helps conserve fossil fuel resources and reduce emissions of CO2 as a means to prevent global warming. Products contain 25wt% biomass from organic resources that can be renewed within a few years. They have the same mechanical properties and workability as conventional resins from fossil fuels.

CBZ Thermosetting Resin for CFRP

CBZ is a thermosetting resin that excels in adhesion to various fibers, including carbon fiber, resulting in high-performance FRP with superior mechanical properties.
Especially in the case of CFRP, CBZ provides excellent performance that could not be obtained with conventional radical polymerization resins.
It can be applied to various molding methods.

UPICA COAT Saturated Polyester Resin for Powder Coatings

Our coating resin "UPICA COAT" has been highly evaluated by domestic paint manufacturers and used in a variety of applications. In particular, we have a long track record in the domestic market for environmentally friendly, solvent-free powder coating resins.

UPICA MAT Foamed Nonwoven Fabric for FRP Lamination.

“UPICA MAT” is a form non-woven fabric. It incorporated with microspheres into long-fiber non-woven fabric and thermally expanded in the presence of a special binder. It is highly compatible with unsaturated polyester resin, making it ideal as a core material in sandwich FRP structures.

Molding Compound (UPICA SMC/Vyloglass)

”Vyloglass” is a thermosetting dry-type molding compound based on crystalline unsaturated polyester resin. It excels in electrical insulation, flame retardancy, and heat resistance, and also offers superior handling, moldability, rapid curing, and storage stability. We offer a range of grades to meet various requirements, including heat-resistant grades, flame-retardant grades, and heat-dissipating grades. Vioglass has a proven track record in applications that demand high reliability, such as electrical equipment, electronic components, automotive electrical parts, and heat-resistant components. In recent times, with the reevaluation of productivity and safety performance, Vyloglass has gained significant attention.

At the Shonan Research Laboratory, we are developing and improving radical polymerization resins, mainly for composite materials, and developing molding materials (intermediate materials) using them. In addition to resin synthesis, we also speedily evaluate the performance of composite materials to meet customer needs. In recent years, we have been focusing on advanced composite materials, civil engineering repair materials, and electronic materials, and conducting research and development to provide highly reliable materials.
From the selection of raw materials and synthesis to shipment, we manufacture materials under consistent quality control and deliver them to the market with the quality that meets the requirements of our customers.
